And now, the end is here...

Doctor Who,Illustration,Graeme Neil Reid

Christmas has brought me a few last private commissions for the year and one of them is a Doctor Who illustration. Very nice to be drawing Mr Tennant one last time before he gets sent on his way on the first day of the new year. These pencils are just a section of the finished piece.

  1. very nice...just to be clear, these are pencils? Looks great....digitally inked?

  2. Yes indeed this is pencils, I pencil very tightly when I need to get approval from a client. Nope it'll be traditionally inked as its a private commission and the client wishes to own an original piece of art at the end of it all. I hardly ever ink on the computer, unless its a small correction that I can do quickly. I'm not sure what I make of digital inking at the moment as even though I know lots of people who are raving about Manga Studio and the like I can't help notice some tell tale signs of the job being produced by those applications. Just as people can spot the familiar Photoshop filters in an artists work then if you can spot the 'easy' things that Manga Studio lets you do then I'm of the school that reckons you are not trying hard enough. Still all being said I'm not against digital inking, its another tool in the artists trade. Jeez, long answer!

  3. Hi, Graeme. Beautiful illustration, Sir. I also initially thought I was looking at a finished inked piece. Look forward to seeing the completed pencilled/inked version.
