Doodling on a Sunday afternoon.

Orlok

Oops, looks like i made a mess of my autopost and didn't set it properly - doh!

Just back from Dundee Comics Expo so just able to fix it now. Really enjoyable day at the Expo. Comics stuff during the day then out for some drinks, grub and Judge Minty showing at the DCA with Graeme, Gary, Jeremy Briggs and Nigel Dobbyn. Followed by further drinking session at the DCA with Jim Stewart, David Lloyd, Bryan Talbot and his wife Mary, and the guys from Plan B books. Great down to earth bunch and i was far too easily convinced to stay on instead of heading home at the sensible time i had promised myself i would. Hey, ho - sure i'll be sober and fighting fit tomorrow, actually looking at the clock i mean today :(

Anyhoo, this shot of Orlok is from issue 6 of School of the Damned (which will hopefully be out next month).

Oh, and Alex has copies of Outpost available now - do yourself a favour and pick one up, the artwork is amazing.

The 39 Steps , MacGillivray

Taking a break from the dozens of Tempest characters to Show some other stuff, this time a few weeks of characters from the impending release of The Story Mechanics' 39 Steps.  Macgillivray, I think the chief of Scotland Yard.  The full figure, plus the 'card' armature that he appears on in-game.   © The Story Mechanics 2012

The Dark Knight, Robin & Old Man Logan

A commission I did recently. While I have no time for Batman normally ( yes, I think Batman is silly , get over it! ) I do think that The Dark Knight and Batman Year One are great comics. So I enjoyed drawing Frank Miller's mean, monolithic, old Batman. I haven't read anything with Old Man Logan, apparently Wolverine does age, but very slowly. It seems like a good idea. I didn't like much of the old man logan art that I've seen so far. Most comics artists seem to struggle to make characters genuinely threatening. I was going for the dense , compact, intensity that Ian McShane is so good at . With a hint of humour. Wolverine should have a sense of humour in my opinion. This one turned out fun I think.

The Creeper sketch card

Another sketch card done with pantone markers, this time of the Creeper.

Tempest Fisherman

One of the first images I made for Tempest, a lowly fisherman.  His red arm-band was supposed to mean something - his involvement with a gang or society, but I don't know if that was ever used.  Clearly I later learned to properly draw feet... :?  © Alderac Entertainment 2009

Colditz

I'm chained to my desk and the dreaded deadline demon is strutting about outside so time is short this week. Here's the pencil stage of an illustration of Castle Colditz just cause I like it.

Commercial Suicide

This is the early version of a cover I did back 8 years ago now. I can't remember what she was supposed to be saying. Suggestions below...

F is for Firestar

A quick play about with a slightly different inking method and some new brushes and coloured up with pantone markers.

Firestar started off as a cartoon character in 'Spider-Man and his amazing friends' before moving over to comics where she has jumped about between the X-Men, New Warriors and Avengers books.

Luke Skywalker_layout and sketch.

Another wee sketch from LSCC. I quickly thumbnail an idea/pose, then layout the sketch in biro very quickly to plan out the details. The brushpen is used to finish the piece [using the transparency of the paper to edit where necessary] Some minor background details are added for context. All in, about 20 minutes.

Row, Row, Row your boat

It's the Tempest boatman!   I think the barrel might have been used as a card in itself as well.  Does that mean this week you get two for the price of one?  © AEG 2010

God Game Black Portraits

GodGameBlackPortraits_GNREID.jpg photo GodGameBlackPortraits_GNREID_zps4afbb5a5.jpg
God Game Black is the latest supplement for The Laundry RPG, based on the Laundry Files novels by Charles Stross. Produced by Cubicle 7 Entertainment the PDF digital version of the supplement is available for gamers now with the print edition due out in the next few months. I had the enjoyable brief of bringing to life five characters in the supplement with these portrait illustrations produced traditionally with pencil and promarkers.
