1) What was your first published work?
Issue two of Electric Soup December 1989.
2) Who or what inspires you?
People that can draw well and have learned to draw from real life. Great ideas. Loads of different things from different places.
3) What would be your dream job to illustrate?
I've just finished working with one of my favourite filmmakers so that was pretty close to it. I'm not sure. Half the fun is waiting to see what comes along next.
4) Tell us a bit about the illustration(s) you've sent?
This is drawing I did when for fun. I was hoping to get the job storyboarding The Thing (2011) as I am a huge fan of the John Carpenter version and felt "well, they're making it anyway, I'd like to be involved". I did this to show "hey look I can draw The Thing ....or something". I got the job but this ended up not having anything to do with it as the director hadn't seen it when I was hired. Got to show it to him afterwards! The other one is a werewolf I did for myself when I decided to have a practice on photoshop.
5) What can we expect to see from you next (what are you working on)?
Well the chances are you won't get see my art but you will see the sequences I boarded on Total Recall, Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim and Robocop- which I'm working on now. Who knows, sometimes I'm on DVD special features. One day I'd like to have my work on an "Art of..." book. That would be nice.
6) If you hadn't become an artist what do you think you'd have ended up doing?
God knows. I was accepted for Architecture but got in to Glasgow School or Art just in time to save me.
7) Where can we see more of your work (web links)?
www.mccallumart.com is my website!
