The coolest bad guys ever?

I've started working on a stormtrooper model in 3D for a digital painting I'm planning to do.
There's a very rough step by step on how I attempted to get the screen authentic look of the helmet over on my blog.

  1. Even reading thru your step by step I still can't get to grips with 3D, it baffles the hell out of me and wish it didn't as I spend a lot of time with referencing on illustrations and I'm sure it would help me if I could figure it out. Something needs to click in my brain first though :)

  2. From what i'm told Google sketch up seems to be a good package for newcomers to 3D. You should give it a whirl and see how you get on with it. I'm not sure how it copes with organic shapes but seems to be fine for buildings and vehicles etc.
I'm totally won over to 3D as a sketch tool for illustration work.
